# Which S3-Compatible Storage Has No Egress Fees? (2026)

> Cloudflare R2, Wasabi and OVHcloud charge nothing for egress. Backblaze B2 and IDrive e2 are free up to 3x what you store. Prices and the catch for each.

Three S3-compatible providers charge nothing when data leaves storage: Cloudflare R2, Wasabi and OVHcloud Object Storage. Two more, Backblaze B2 and IDrive e2, don't charge for egress up to three times the data you store each month. You still pay for storage everywhere, and most of them have a catch: per-request fees, a fair-use policy, a minimum storage period or a monthly minimum.

Prices were checked on each provider's own pricing page on October 13, 2026. They change, so confirm before you move production data.

## Providers and prices

| Provider | Egress | Storage price | Limits and extra charges |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare R2 | Free, for every storage class[[1]](https://developers.cloudflare.com/r2/pricing/) | $0.015 per GB a month (Standard) | Requests are billed: $4.50 per million writes and $0.36 per million reads. The Infrequent Access class adds a $0.01 per GB retrieval fee and a minimum storage period[[2]](https://developers.cloudflare.com/r2/pricing/). |
| Wasabi | Free, along with API requests, under Wasabi's fair-use policies[[3]](https://docs.wasabi.com/docs/may-2026-wasabi-pricing-faqs.md) | $7.99 per TB a month (pay as you go, since July 1, 2026)[[4]](https://docs.wasabi.com/docs/may-2026-wasabi-pricing.md) | A minimum storage duration: delete early and you pay for the remaining days[[5]](https://docs.wasabi.com/docs/how-does-wasabis-minimum-storage-duration-policy-work.md). There is also a monthly minimum charge, even with nothing stored[[6]](https://docs.wasabi.com/docs/how-does-wasabis-monthly-minimum-storage-charge-work.md). |
| OVHcloud Object Storage | Free: no charge for API calls, incoming traffic or outgoing traffic[[7]](https://www.ovhcloud.com/en/public-cloud/object-storage/) | Depends on the storage class | You pay for stored capacity, and for restored data on some storage classes[[8]](https://www.ovhcloud.com/en/public-cloud/object-storage/). |
| Backblaze B2 | Free up to 3x your average monthly stored data, then $0.01 per GB[[9]](https://www.backblaze.com/cloud-storage/pricing) | $6.95 per TB a month | Heavy download traffic goes past the 3x allowance. Unlimited free egress is only on B2 Overdrive, which needs a multi-petabyte commitment[[10]](https://www.backblaze.com/cloud-storage/pricing). |
| IDrive e2 | Free up to 3x your active storage, then $0.01 per GB[[11]](https://www.idrive.com/s3-storage-e2/pricing) | $6 per TB a month (pay as you go) | You are billed for at least 1 TB, even if you store less[[12]](https://www.idrive.com/s3-storage-e2/pricing). |

Two that come up often but are not free:

- Hetzner Object Storage includes a quota of egress in its base price (about 1 TB a month) and bills traffic above it[[13]](https://docs.hetzner.com/storage/object-storage/overview/).
- Storj charges $7 per TB of egress[[14]](https://www.storj.io/pricing).

## What "no egress fees" covers

Egress is data going out of the provider: downloads, a website serving images, a restore, or a move to another cloud. "No egress fees" means that traffic is not billed by the GB. Reads can still cost something: R2 bills each read request, and Wasabi's free egress comes with fair-use terms.

Uploads (ingress) are free almost everywhere, including at AWS, Azure and Google. The expensive side there is egress, which those clouds bill per GB[[15]](https://aws.amazon.com/s3/pricing/)[[16]](https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/bandwidth/). For the full background, read [Cloud Storage Ingress vs Egress Fees](https://blober.io/kb/articles/cloud-storage-ingress-egress-fees-explained/).

## Which one fits

- If you serve files to the public (images, downloads, an app's media), Cloudflare R2 fits best. Reads are billed per request, so heavy download traffic does not grow the bill per GB.
- For backups and archives you restore now and then, Backblaze B2 and IDrive e2 cost less to store than R2, and a full restore fits inside their 3x allowance.
- For steady storage with occasional downloads, Wasabi works if you keep data past its minimum storage period.
- If you want a European provider, OVHcloud has no egress charges at all.

## Moving off AWS, Azure or Google costs egress once

Switching to a zero-egress provider stops future egress bills, but the cloud you leave still charges egress for every GB you copy out. Check that one-time cost before you start, and copy each file once, streaming it from source to destination, instead of downloading everything to a disk and uploading it again later. [Server-to-Server vs Download-and-Reupload](https://blober.io/kb/articles/server-to-server-vs-download-reupload/) explains the difference.

## Moving data into these with Blober

[Blober](https://blober.io) is a desktop app that copies files between storage accounts. It has Cloudflare R2, Wasabi and Backblaze B2 built in, and reaches IDrive e2, OVHcloud and Hetzner through its [S3-compatible provider](https://blober.io/kb/docs/providers/s3-compatible/), using the endpoint URL from the provider's docs. Transfers run on your computer, retry failed files, and resume where they stopped. Blober adds no per-GB fee of its own, though the source cloud's egress still applies.

## Frequently asked questions

**Which cloud storage has no egress fees?**
Cloudflare R2, Wasabi and OVHcloud Object Storage don't bill egress. Backblaze B2 and IDrive e2 don't bill it up to 3x what you store each month.

**Is Cloudflare R2 free to download from?**
There is no charge per GB downloaded. Each read request is billed ($0.36 per million on Standard), and storage is $0.015 per GB a month.

**What is Wasabi's catch?**
Free egress is subject to Wasabi's fair-use policies, data deleted before the minimum storage period is billed for the remaining days, and accounts pay a monthly minimum charge.

**Does free egress make a migration free?**
No. The provider you are leaving bills egress for the data you copy out. Free egress only helps with traffic out of the new provider.

**Can I move data from AWS S3 or Azure into R2, Wasabi or B2 without downloading it first?**
Yes. A tool that streams each file from source to destination never needs a full local copy. Blober does this on your computer (the data passes through your connection, not your disk), and [How to Move Data from Azure Blob Storage to Cloudflare R2](https://blober.io/kb/articles/how-to-move-azure-blob-to-cloudflare-r2/) walks through one example.
